I have recently moved over to Android and I can’t say how much more enjoyable it is to use a phone now. For the first few days it’s all about downloading a tonne of apps and trying out any new features, and I thought I would outline a few of the apps I have downloaded and not stopped using since. I will exclude the obvious such as Facebook and Twitter, as I’m sure you’ll already have them.
Wunderlist – Task List – Free
AppUseful have previously reviewed Wunderlist, and they have now released an Android app, connecting all their mobile, desktop and web based apps for accessing their impressive task and to-do list manager.
ReadItLater – £0.60 (Around $1)
ReadItLater does as it says, it allows you to read content later. For a small price you can purchase this app and throughout Android apps you can add stories and content to the app easily. It’s cross platform, mobile and web along with some great browser plugins for adding stories to your queue. A simple text view enables you to read stories offline, clutter free.
Google Goggles – Free
Goggles is a great bit of fun whilst also having its useful moments. It can scan QR codes, bar codes, logos and text, and search online for what you have captured. See a QR code? Scan it and find out what it leads to, got a bar code? Scan it and see if you can get it cheaper. All this and more from Google Goggles for free.
Google Docs – Free
It’s just been released, and if you use Google’s Doc’s service you’ll find this a powerful app for using and editing your cloud documents.
Opera Mini – Free
I found Opera Mini to be a great replacement browser from the stock provided browser on my HTC. I’ve found it to be fast and easy to use, with a great overall feel.
Angry Birds – Free
C’mon, it’s free and addictive!
Pulse News – Free
A great app for collating news, reading and sharing it through social networks. See our recent post on news aggregation services.
AVG Antivirus – Free
If you’re looking for peace of mind with your Android device, I’ve found this to be effective.
Just my quick list of apps to try if you’re new or old to Android.
AppUseful have an Android App too!
